Movie Monday is a feature here on my blog, in which I’m rambling about movies I’ve watched lately.
This week I watched a movie everyone talks about at the moment, and I will give you my two cents.
Us
I think I was one of the last people to hear about movie Us. I mean, one of the last people of us who try to keep up with movies. I am aware there are thousands who still have no clue about it.
One of my colleagues told me about this picture and she even showed me the trailer.
As soon as I saw it, I knew I had to watch it. The trailer was creepy, and if you know me, I like creepy stuff.
Since I didn’t have anyone to go with, I decided to go and see it all by myself (I wrote about it in my Sunday Post). I picked 5 p.m. show, just to be sure I would come home safely (aka I wouldn’t shit my pants out of fear).
The movie was solid. I am sorry but I can’t say I was fascinated by it, even though I know it is much loved.
I love horrors, and because I watch them often, I can say I’ve seen better.
The story idea is original, I can’t deny that, but the movie as a whole was just mediocre.
Even with all the explanations some things stayed unrealistic (and the big plot twist was not surprising, but it also didn’t have the ground, when you think about what characters were saying through the movie…).
My favorite part was music. It was really creepy and it gave me chills. It is the best horror music I heard in the last few years.
The opening scene with rabbits was also creepy. I liked it so much I am still fascinated by it, even though it was actually very simple.
Little things like that are what I appreciate in movies.
The humour was also great. The father was so funny, and I even laughed out loud at some scenes.
If there wasn’t the humour, I think Us would be less accepted with the audience.
There are some big names behind this movie, and I honestly think they are the reason why this movie is so hyped. I don’t think it’s that good!
If it was written by not so famous writer and if it didn’t have Lupita as main actress, I don’t think people would talk about it at all.
The ending was unsatisfying. I didn’t stay in theater to see if there was a scene after the credit, but from what I saw, all that “performance” looked kind of stupid.
I’ve heard there are some theories about Us so I plan to google them. Who knows, maybe they will make me see things I missed, maybe I’ll appreciate the movie more, even though I doubt it.
I’ve only recently seen this movie making the rounds, and it does look creepy! Yikes! Sorry to hear it wasn’t better, although it seems like the humor saved it a bit.

Thanks Greg. Even though it’s nothing special, I think it’s still worth watching.

I was so hyped up for this one. I loved Get Out, and I love horror movies. But when I saw it, I was disappointed. Like you said, it is a solid movie for sure. But I wanted more. I think my expectations were high after Get Out. Like you I figured out the twist very quickly. And as creepy as the rabbit scene at the beginning was, I thought it went on waaaaaaay too long. I’m interested to hear about the theories, so I may go do some googling myself. The movie critic on one of my local tv stations said it needed more than one viewing. So maybe I’ll do that since I have the AMC A-List. Although, I never agree with what that critic says, so who knows.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who wasn’t completely blown away!

I also liked Get Out wat, waaaay more!
Maybe it will be better after rewatching, but oh my, that ending was silly…

You are super brave! I am not sure that I would be able to see this one in a theatre alone! It does sound like there are quite a few enjoyable aspects despite the ending.

I liked the movie and totally loved the music score. I think you might enjoy it better with all the theories about the movie. I am glad I watched it, even though there were bits where I was kinda bored in the middle.

I don’t usually go for horror, but was curious to see if Jordan could one-up Get Out. I was creeped out, but impressed by the symbolism and layers in Us and although it was way creepier (to me) than Get Out, I think Us was the better movie in the sense that I saw it two weeks ago and am still thinking about some of the scenes. Movie score was EXCELLENT, especially in the last 30 minutes.

Yes the underlying symbolism is good in this movie. Beautifully done to weave a story around it

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I intend to watch this, but I am going to wait for the DVD. Like you I’m pretty picky about Horror movies. I am however off the see if there are any of the soundtrack songs on YouTube. 👍✨

I think waiting for the DVD release is the right choice!

This movie is all about duality of life and metaphors. It terrifies you by making you understand what kind of consumerist people we are. Have tried to decipher it to my best. Visit my blog if you like

This movie is all about duality of life and metaphors. It tries to make us understand that the ghost we are try to search outside is actually inside of us and it has become so big that we should be afraid of it. Have tried to decipher it to a lot of extent. Visit my page if you are interested

Thank you James. I should give it a go one more time now when you and some other people explained it to me. I will visit your page now, and once again thank you for leaving a meaningful comment.
