Movie Monday: A Christmas Detour – Sweet,festive daytime movie #Christmas #MovieReview #Monday #Festive

Movie Monday is a feature here on my blog, in which I’m rambling about movies I’ve watched lately.

Today I want to talk about a Christmas movie I’ve watched yesterday on tv. I enjoyed it and thought it would be a good idea to put some spotlight on this title.

A Christmas Detour

I did not plan to post Movie Monday feature today, because I haven’t watched any movie I wanted to talk about, but then yesterday I stumbled on one festive daytime movie that was showing on our local tv station, and I happened to like it and wanted to put some spotlight on this movie.

Since it is a picture from 2015, and it is a tv movie, I believe it’s available on most streaming services. You’ll have to forgive me, but I didn’t do a research for that.

While I was watching A Christmas Detour I had a feeling I was watching a Hallmark movie, but according to IMDb, it’s from another production.

However, if you enjoy Lifetime and Hallmark movies, you will love this one too.

The story follows four strangers who end up stuck together because of the storm. They all wanted to be in New York for Christmas but their airplane got cancelled and they ended up in a whole another country, snowed in.
As they get to know each other they also discover their own secret wishes they didn’t even know they had.

I liked the festive vibe through the whole movie. It was my favourite part.
Also, the characters were really likeable and I enjoyed watching them on their adventure.
And in the end, as a cherry on top, the love story was cute and just done right.

If you’ll have a chance to watch A Christmas Detour this season, I highly recommend you to do so!

Movie Monday: The Lion King – Beautifully nostalgic #TheLionKing #MovieMonday #Disney #MovieReview

Movie Monday is a feature here on my blog, in which I’m rambling about movies I’ve watched lately.

Today I want to talk about the movie that was my most anticipated picture of 2019, and now I finally had a chance to see it.

The Lion King

The Lion King was my most anticipated movie of 2019. I couldn’t wait til’ it got to theaters, and then once it did, I couldn’t go and watch it because I found out I was pregnant and my doctor forbidden me to be anywhere near children.

I was devastated, to say the least, because knowing I wouldn’t be able to see this amazing picture on the big screen kind of broke my heart.

Nevertheless, now when it finally came out I was able to see it at home, and to say that I enjoyed it would be an understatement.
I can’t even find the words to describe my feelings. I felt so nostalgic, filled with all kinds of positive emotions.

I just loved it so much!

The movie is funny, as the cartoon version also is. I was little disappointed that they didn’t include my favourite scene in the movie (the one where Zazu has to sing to Scar), but they included so many new ones plus also an original song.
However, I liked the old songs so much better.

Now, let’s talk about the cuteness!
Little cubs were to die for! Simba and Nala reminded me so much of GiGi and my late Simba.
I mean, every animal in this movie was cute! Even hyenas was adorable.

This movie made me so emotional, as I knew it would because even when watching the trailer my eyes get teary.
I know that the reason behind that is the fact that I grew up with original The Lion King Movie, but this time around it was like watching enchanted version of something that was already perfect.

I highly recommend The Lion King to everyone, no exception!

Movie Monday: The Hustle – Oh so funny! #HustleMovie #MovieMonday #MovieReview #Comedy

Movie Monday is a feature here on my blog, in which I’m rambling about movies I’ve watched lately.

Today I want to talk about a comedy I watched this weekend, that was recommended to me by my frined.

The Hustle

I remember when The Hustle was in teathers and I was interested in it, but missed it because there was some other movie I decided to watch instead (don’t quote me on that, but I think it was Annabelle Comes Home).

This movie was recommended to me by my friend Monika who really enjoyed it, so I knew I’d see it at some point.

I love good comedy from time to time. It is actually my second favourite genre when it comes to movies (horrors being no 1).

The Hustle was really funny and enjoyable. I laughed at so many scenes while watching and there was one particular trick main characters used to escape that I haven’t seen before, and I thought it was so original! It still makes me smile when I think about it!

The main actresses were amazing, as it was expected from two established women in this industry.
Anne Hathaway looked so beautiful to me, I just have to mention it.

I like how the movie was not too long (1h and 33 min according to IMDb). I feel like these days most movies are at least 2 hours long, so everytime there’s a shorter one, I appreciate it.

Overall, I think The Hustle was an interesting and funny movie to watch which fulfilled it’s purpose, and that was to entertain the audience.

Movie Monday: A Dog’s Journey – I fell in love with it #ADogsJourney #ADogsPurpose #Movie #MovieReview

Movie Monday is a feature here on my blog, in which I’m rambling about movies I’ve watched lately.

It’s been a while since I’ve done Movie Monday but this weekend I watched a movie I fell hard in love with, so I have to tell you guys about it, in hope you will give it a watch too.

A Dog’s Journey

A Dog's Journey movie cover

It has been a while since I did a Movie Monday feature here on my blog, and to be perfectly honest, the reason for it was that I haven’t go to the cinema in a very long time, so I fell discouraged to talk about movies I watch on tv.

However, this weekend I watched a movie that just came out on DVD recently, and since I completely fell in love with it, I have to tell you all about it (okay, not all, but my feels at least).

A Dog’s Journey is a movie that melted my heart in one warm caramel. I don’t even remember when was the last time I felt so many positive emotions during one movie as I felt when watching this picture.
It talks about life of a girl from perspective of a dog who’s purpose is to keep her safe.

What I didn’t know (because, obviously, I live under a rock) that this movie is a sequel to another movie that came out in 2017: A Dog’s Purpose.
Still, even though I haven’t watched the first movie, I could still follow the story without any problem, because A Dog’s Journey stands perfectly on it’s own.
Nevertheless, I plan to watch A Dog’s Purpose next weekend (and maybe I’ll feature it in my next Movie Monday).

As soon as I finished this wonderful film I messaged my friend who has the similar taste to mine with recommendation.
Now I’m doing a similar thing to you, people who read my blog: I wholeheartedly endorse you to give A Dog’s Journey a chance because I assure you: you will probably love it.
If you end up loving it just as half as much as I did, I am sure you will not regret 109 minutes of your life, because it will be time well spent.

Movie Monday: The Last Summer – a solid teen picture #TheLastSummer #MovieReview #Netflix

Movie Monday is a feature here on my blog, in which I’m rambling about movies I’ve watched lately.

Today I talk about teenage movie everyone talked about when it first came out.

The Last Summer

The Last Summer movie cover

If you’re active on twitter, you had to hear about The Last Summer. I feel like everyone talked about it when it first came out, and the reviews were pretty much positive.
I made a mental note to watch it when I’d have free time, and now when I finally do, I had to give it a chance.

The Last Summer is a teenage drama that follows multiple characters and their stories. All of them have their last summer before they go to college.
This is a story about self discovery, friendships and family dynamics. In other words, this is a story about life.

In general, I liked the movie, even though if I’m being honest, it was a bit boring. I think if the story was told in a different way, it could have been better, but it wasn’t bad at all. It was a solid movie, nothing more. I don’t think it brought anything new to the table.

Out of all the stories, I liked Phoebe’s the best. I think it really stands out from the others.

I watched this picture together with my fiance and his impression are similar to mine.

Overall, this is the perfect summer story to relax with, but nothing more then that. I think it is worth to check out so I do recommend it.

Movie Monday: Dumbo – the one that will bring you back to your childhood #MovieMonday #MovieReview #Dumbo

Movie Monday is a feature here on my blog, in which I’m rambling about movies I’ve watched lately.

This week I watch a Disney movie based on a Disney animated movie I watched numerous times during my childhood.

Dumbo

Dumbo is the one movie I was looking forward for months before it was finally in theaters.
My sister was also really excited (she was actually even more excited then me) so we decided to watch it together.
We had a lovely time that day, and the fact that the movie was also good was like a cherry on top.

Spectacular. That is the word I’d use to describe Dumbo.

This version is so much different then the animated one we all grew up with, but it contains some scenes from the original version.
They were changed, but they still brought back memories and that feeling you get when you see something you haven’t for years, but with brand new eyes.

When we compare the stories, I can honestly say I liked Dumbo the movie better.
It is is more layered and it contains a complete story.

The cast is great, it is full of A-lists actors who preformed so well in the movie.
What I’d also like to emphasize is the sense of humour. I laughed so many times and it is really a highlight of the picture.

Once Dumbo had it’s premiere, the critics were not so easy on this movie, and I don’t understand why.
I really loved it and would recommend it to everyone, young and old.

Movie Monday: Us – the one with creepy music #MovieMonday #MovieReview #UsMovie #Horror

Movie Monday is a feature here on my blog, in which I’m rambling about movies I’ve watched lately.

This week I watched a movie everyone talks about at the moment, and I will give you my two cents.

Us

Us movie cover lupita horror

I think I was one of the last people to hear about movie Us. I mean, one of the last people of us who try to keep up with movies. I am aware there are thousands who still have no clue about it.

One of my colleagues told me about this picture and she even showed me the trailer.
As soon as I saw it, I knew I had to watch it. The trailer was creepy, and if you know me, I like creepy stuff.

Since I didn’t have anyone to go with, I decided to go and see it all by myself (I wrote about it in my Sunday Post). I picked 5 p.m. show, just to be sure I would come home safely (aka I wouldn’t shit my pants out of fear).

The movie was solid. I am sorry but I can’t say I was fascinated by it, even though I know it is much loved.
I love horrors, and because I watch them often, I can say I’ve seen better.
The story idea is original, I can’t deny that, but the movie as a whole was just mediocre.
Even with all the explanations some things stayed unrealistic (and the big plot twist was not surprising, but it also didn’t have the ground, when you think about what characters were saying through the movie…).

My favorite part was music. It was really creepy and it gave me chills. It is the best horror music I heard in the last few years.
The opening scene with rabbits was also creepy. I liked it so much I am still fascinated by it, even though it was actually very simple.
Little things like that are what I appreciate in movies.

The humour was also great. The father was so funny, and I even laughed out loud at some scenes.
If there wasn’t the humour, I think Us would be less accepted with the audience.

There are some big names behind this movie, and I honestly think they are the reason why this movie is so hyped. I don’t think it’s that good!
If it was written by not so famous writer and if it didn’t have Lupita as main actress, I don’t think people would talk about it at all.

The ending was unsatisfying. I didn’t stay in theater to see if there was a scene after the credit, but from what I saw, all that “performance” looked kind of stupid.

I’ve heard there are some theories about Us so I plan to google them. Who knows, maybe they will make me see things I missed, maybe I’ll appreciate the movie more, even though I doubt it.

Book Review:

This is a really short picture book, so I’ll keep my review short as well.

What first grabbed my interest when it comes to this book is the art work on the cover.
That little mouse with a christmas hat and schal was just too cute to pass.

And let me tell you, the art work through the whole book is just plain beautiful.

This is a story about little mouse and his friends who are preparing a performance for Santa Claus.

The story itself is solid and I think many children will enjoy it.

I would recommend this book for parents with toddlers, to read it to them in an anticipation of Christmas.
I also think it is a great choice for kids who are just learning to read and for kids who are learning English as a foreign language.

My rating:

Story: 3

Art Work: 5
