My Sweet Revenge by Jane Fallon

Publisher: Penguin UK, Michael Joseph

Publication Date: January 12th, 2017

Summary:

I want to make my husband fall back in love with me.

Let me explain. This isn’t an exercise in 1950s wifeydom. I haven’t been reading articles in old women’s magazines. ‘Twenty ways to keep your man’. That couldn’t be further from the truth.

I want him to fall back in love with me so that when I tell him to get the hell out of my life he’ll care. He won’t just think, ‘Oh good’.

I want it to hurt.

Paula has had Robert’s back since they got together as drama students. She gave up her dreams so he could make it. Now he’s one of the nation’s most popular actors. And Paula’s just discovered he’s having an affair.

She’s going to remind Robert just what he’s sacrificing. And then she’s going to break his heart like he broke hers. It will be her greatest acting role ever.

Revenge is sweet. Isn’t it?

Why am I waiting?

It seems to me this story could go two ways: it could blow our minds with it’s greatness, or it could make us roll our eyes.
I have a feeling the first will be the case, and I simply can’t wait to read it.
Also, I am so curious to see how she’s going to make her husband fall in love with her!

Jane Fallon is pretty popular author, but I still haven’t read anything by her. I hope My Sweet Revenge will be my first encounter with her writing.

My Not So Perfect Life by Sophie Kinsella

Publisher: Bantam Press

Publication Date: February 9th, 2017

Summary:

Caz Brenner is living the dream – she has a flat in London, a job in creative branding, and her Instagram feed is full of all the amazing things London has to offer: delicious food and beautiful sights and lots of fun. Ok, so the crappy truth is that she rents a tiny room in Catford with no space for a wardrobe, spends most of her days engaged in tedious admin on the other side of the city, and posts photos of food she could never ever afford to eat. But it’s all just about worth it.

Until her bright and shiny life comes crashing down: her demanding boss Demeter gives her sack, and with no means to live in London any more, Caz has to move home to Somerset. Now she’s plain old Katie Brenner again, helping out her dad and her stepmum as they attempt to launch a glamping business on their farm. (They think she’s on sabbatical from her job, and she can’t quite bear to tell them the truth…)

With Katie’s creative branding experience, the glamping is soon a big success. So much so that Demeter and her family book in on holiday – and Katie sees her chance to get revenge on the woman who ruined her dream. So long as Demeter doesn’t see beyond her disguise and give the game away to her parents, of course.

It’s time to see who’s the boss…

Why am I waiting?

If you follow this blog for a while, you probably know that Sophie Kinsella is the one who got me into reading for pleasure. Her book Can You Keep a Secret showed me that reading can be fun, and her Shopaholic series made me eagerly going into library in a search for the new book.
After I ran out of all Kinsella’s books, I simply countinued reading other british chick lits.

It has been years since Sophie released her last standalone adult novel, and I really need my Kinsella fix, so I simply can’t wait to read this new story by her, that sounds like a lot of fun!

Why am I waiting?

I like to say for myself that I am the biggest Vampire Academy fan out there.
I have never, ever loved fictional characters as much as I love Adrian, Christian, Vasilisa, Rose and others, nor do I believe that I ever will.
I never stopped hoping that Richelle Mead will write another series set in Vampire Academy world.
I still hope, but until my wish comes true, I am happy to have an opportunity to read this bind up of short stories and novellas with my favorite morois and dhampirs.

Summary:

Three women. Three love stories. One city.

For Sophie, Prague has always been magical. And now she’s counting down the moments until her boyfriend Robin joins her in the city that holds so many of their memories . . .

Why am I waiting?

This year I read Isabelle Broom’s My Map of You and fell in love with her writing style and the story in general. My Map of You is honestly one of the best novels I have read this year, so I can’t wait to read Broom’s future work.
She did such an amazing job describing Greece and making me want to visit there. Now, her new book is taking place in Prague, the city I actually visited once.
I am the most curious about how Broom’s going to describe the beauty of it using words, but am also intrigued by the plot and I can’t wait to meet Megan, Hope and Sophie.

Waiting on Wednesday (#14): Glitter by Aprilynne Pike

wow

Waiting on Wendesday is a weekly event hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine. It spotlights upcoming releases we can’t wait to read.

This week I am eagerly anticipating:

glitter

Glitter by Aprilynne Pike

Publisher: Random House Books for Young Readers

Publication Date: October 25th, 2016

Summary:

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Aprilynne Pike comes a truly original new novel—Breaking Bad meets Marie Antoinette in a near-future world where the residents of Versailles live like it’s the eighteenth century and an almost-queen turns to drug dealing to save her own life.

Outside the palace of Versailles, it’s modern day. Inside, the people dress, eat, and act like it’s the eighteenth century—with the added bonus of technology to make court life lavish, privileged, and frivolous. The palace has every indulgence, but for one pretty young thing, it’s about to become a very beautiful prison.
When Danica witnesses an act of murder by the young king, her mother makes a cruel power play . . . blackmailing the king into making Dani his queen. When she turns eighteen, Dani will marry the most ruthless and dangerous man of the court. She has six months to escape her terrifying destiny. Six months to raise enough money to disappear into the real world beyond the palace gates.
Her ticket out? Glitter. A drug so powerful that a tiny pinch mixed into a pot of rouge or lip gloss can make the wearer hopelessly addicted. Addicted to a drug Dani can sell for more money than she ever dreamed.
But in Versailles, secrets are impossible to keep. And the most dangerous secret—falling for a drug dealer outside the palace walls—is one risk she has to take.

Why am I waiting?

Aprilynne Pike’s Wings series will always have a special place in my heart because it is the first work of fiction about faeries that I have read. It made me fell in love with those creatures and since then, books about faeries are my favorite fantasy reads.

Even though it’s been years since Wings came out, I still haven’t read any other book by Pike. I always wanted to try her other novels, so when I first saw the cover and read the synopsis for Glitter, I just knew that this will be my next read by this author.

Why am I waiting?

As you probably already know, Lindsey Kelk is one of my absolutely favorite authors. I loved every single book I read by her and she is the creator of the best chick lit series out there: I Heart.

I have been quetly stalking her for a while now (since I opened my twitter acc) and ever since I saw she was working on her new book, I was beyond excited to see what she prepared for us this time.

This book should be a bit different from her previous work because the story will be told from two POVs, one of them being from a guy.

Something tells me I’m going to love this one!

Why am I waiting?

When I first read the blurb I couldn’t help but think this would be a perfect romantic movie, if it ever gets to be filmed.

I can’t recall when was the last time I read a book about two old lovers meeting again after more then few years, and to be honest, I kind of feel like I need that kind of story in my life.

That is why I simply can’t wait to read The One That Got Away.

Ever since I found out about this novel, I can’t get it out of my head.
There’s something about this book that is screaming at me that it is a book for me. I can’t even describe it.

All in all, I have a strong feeling this book will be everything I want from it and more, and I can’t wait to read it and see if my feeling is right.

Review:

In this, fourth novel in Pushing the Limits series (that can be read as a stanalone) we follow Haley and West.
The story is written in first person, switching from Haley’s to West’s POV.

Haley‘s life is not an easy one. After her father lost his job and her family lost the roof over their heads, they moved to her uncle’s house. Living with her uncle is not easy. He has strict rules they all have to obey and he verbally abuses them on regural basis.
Some time before, Haley was a kickbox champion but then, after something terrible happened to her, something that left her with the bitter taste in her mouth, she decided to leave fighting once and for all.

West is a troublemaker. After stealing money from his sister, the money she needed badly and ended up in a car accident because of that, he can’t stop blaming himself for what happened to her.

I loved protagonists of this story. I can honestly say that Haley is now my favorite character Mcgarry created.
She is strong and smart, never gives up and even though people around her bring her down, she doesn’t allow them to change her own opinion about herself. She knows she is worth.

West we already met in Crash Into You, book three of the same series.
There, he wasn’t the guy you would root for. However, giving us the chance to look from his perspective, McGarry made us understand him and therefore I changed my opinion about him and ended up really liking him.

As for characters impressions, author didn’t stop there. From the beginig of the story (and even in previous book) she made us dislike a certain character. I honestly think some readers even hated that same character. But, as the story progressed, and more reasons behind actions showed, as well as some secrets have revealed, McGarry got us to understand that character, and to look at him not as a bad, but as a good guy.

The writting style didn’t disappoint. It was beautiful just like always, although it wasn’t poetic as it was in Dare You To.
Maybe I should stress out here that I came to conclusion that the writing style in Dare You To has more to do with it’s narrator Beth. In the end, she is the one who presented the story to us in that book.

The chemistry between main characters was captured very well, I could feel the intensity between them and I enjoyed reading how they fell for each other slowly and then how that love developed pretty fast.

Although this is a love story, it also has many famly issues and family situations.
I will even be brave enugh to call it a love story with elements of family prose.
That, family aspect of this story, I liked a lot and it made me appreciate this novel even more.

Overall, I think everyone who likes McGarry already will enjoy reading this book, but I would also recommend it to everyone who likes to read ya contemporary about love, but with the darker atmosphere in it.
