My favorite 5: Cats in Books (Bout of Books challenge)

It is day 3 of Bout of Books read-a-thon and today’s challenge is to name our 5 favorite things that we, as readers, like in books.
Favorite 5 can be anything, from book boyfriends to book worlds.

One thing that everyone knows about me is that I am a HUGE cat lover.
I like them so much, that everytime a cat is in the book, I end up liking the book a bit more then I would without them.

So, to appreciate felines in literature, I am bringing you the list of my 5 favorite cats in books:

6644117 Grimmalkin from The Iron Fey by Julie Kagawa

Grimmalkin is one of my favorite book characters ever. He is a cat faery, he is grumpy but loveable at the same time. He has answers to almost everything, knows everyone worth knowing. He is also great when it comes to bargains.
Trust me, you want this cat on your side!

This smarty pants can be annoying at times but let’s be honest – Wonderland would suck without him! This furry fellow is most known for his smile, but his ability to make a certain parts of his body dissapear is what I admire the most. And yes, he can fly!

Now, this is the cat we all should admire. He lost his owner, has been builted in the wall with his death owner, but he survived. I always question what happened to him after his second owner (who did all that to him) got arrested. I like to think some cat friendy people adopted him.
His life wasn’t easy at all, and plus all that, he had only one eye.

alisa Kitty from Trough the Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll

Let’s be honest here: if there wasn’t Kitty, there wouldn’t be Trough the Looking Glass at all. This black kitten is the one who inspired Alice to dream about the Black Queen and she’s the one who Alice played with in front of the mirror.
Plus, she had to listen to Alice’s yelling all the time, and she wasn’t bad kitty at all!

dewey Dewey from Dewey: The Sall-Town Library Cat Who Touched the World by Vicki Myron and Bret Witter

Dewey is the only cat from this list that really existed in the real world. He lived in library in Iowa. There is a wonderful book about him aimed for cat lovers but here’s the long story short: One cold morning librarian found a little kitty in the library box (that’s some kind of box for book donations) and saved his life. He spent 15 years living in the library, napping in other cat lover’s laps and he was even on international television. He died of old age and today you can find his statue in the library that was his home.

 

Now, this is cheating but I couldn’t wrap this up without mentioning one more cat that I appreciate. That is

clockwork princess Church from The Infernal Devices and The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare

This cool cat lives in Catedral(s) and is basically immortal. I mean, he lives for years! How cool is that?! 😀

      Dewey was good book, tbh it was a bit boring at times, but when you look at the whole picture, it was book worth reading, at least from my point of view.

I’m not sure because I only saw the trailer, but I know that in Trough the looking glass there are only white queen, black queen (in the movie it will be the red one), and that guy that johny depp plays (can’t remember what he’s called in english). In the book, there’s no chashire cat, or that butterfly, but there’s humty-dumty (not sure if I spelled it right) and those twins. Anyway, I have a feeling that the movie is going to be better then the book so that’s good! 🙂

  4. I love Church from the Clockwork Angel! Actually, he was probably the only thing I particularly cared for in the book…

    I read a bunch of cozy mystery novels, and most of the ones I’ve read involve cats in some way. I adore a little kitty named GD Cat (that’s Ghost Detecting Cat), who slinks around a paranormal museum in the appropriately named book the Perfectly Proper Paranormal Museum.

      1. Yep! Those are the books. They’re my “fluff” books. The books I turn to when I’m looking for quick, light-hearted read. (Light-hearted is kind of an odd adjective here since usually someone has been murdered…)
